We are excited to have an interview with our third Yobi Tv star! From the Hit Webseries “New Stage”, he plays the high strung, no nonsense, take charge boss Frank(a fan favorite around here)! Dominic Chizzoniti is sure to be on the big screen in no time with undeniable acting chops and a natural comedic draw. We absolutely love him and you are sure to as well. Get to know Dominic Chizzoniti!
Where are you from and where do you currently reside?
Im from Farmingdale Long Island in New York. i was born and raised here and i still live here.
What words would your friends use to describe you?
My Friends would say im funny, competitive, determined and motivated
Are you single?
I am recently single yes
There are a few ladies around here that I am sure will be happy to hear that!
Describe your comedy/acting style?
My comedy style is hard to describe you really have to come check me out to understand but i like to take the audience on a journey and drop a bomb on them at the end. I would say i am outside the box when it comes to comedy. I try to bring something fresh and new to the stage. / My Acting style is Dramatic. I love drama. i love to be loud and emotional. I try to use my whole body (body language) to the best of my ability. Growing up in an Italian home really helped with everyones hands always flying while they yell.
Your dramatic style definitely comes out in New Stage. Frank is very loud and assertive. We Totally enjoy watching you in the series.
What is your favorite movie?
My Favorite movie….Wow would have to be Training Day. Denzel Really IS the MAN
GREAT MOVIE. Denzel is fantastic.
Would you consider yourself an actor or comedian?
Im an Actor. its my passion and i love doing it. Comedy is fun and God Willing ill continue it but it really just helped pave the way for acting.
How did you know you wanted to be a comedian/actor?
i knew i wanted to become an Actor when i became a successful performer as a stand up comic.
Who is your favorite actor/comedian?
My favorite actor is Denzel Washington hands down!
It would be amazing to see you in a film with Denzel. I think you two could make one hell of a movie!
What is your most enjoyable part of stand-up comedy?
My most enjoyable part of Stand- Up-Comedy is “The Moment”, its when you and the crowd are on the same page, when you have them laughing on the edge of their seats, when no matter what comes out of your mouth next, they are going to laugh even harder. At that moment if you can find 1 second to clear your mind and enjoy it, time slows down and its the most amazing feeling in the world.
That is a very poetic perspective. Almost makes me want to be a stand up comedian…ALMOST!
What celebrity do you most admire and why?
Going back to Denzel Washington again, i admire him the most because of his professionalism, his ability to adapt to any and every role, his ability to draw you in and the fact that you never hear a bad thing about him.
Of your personal work, what is the one you are most proud of? Why?
Of my personal work, the one im most proud of is the web series i costar in with Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino “New Stage”, because of how hard it was to get there. All of my hard work that i put into getting there REALLY paid off and i put my heart and soul into that project. It was the most amazing experience of my career thus far.
WE LOVE NEW STAGE!!!! You are definitely a stand out in this series. Your character is amazing! The entire show has been very entertaining to watch. You should be very proud of the series.
What are your future goals and ambitions as it pertains to acting/comedy?
My future goals and ambitions for acting? Well im a very positive person so in my eyes the sky is the limit, but my goals for the near future are to take as many classes as possible to continue my effort to perfect my craft, land a roll in an upcoming film and get into SAG. As far as comedy goes my goals are simple. Continue to have fun on stage, because if your not enjoying it then whats the point!
We have no doubt that with your talent and outlook the sky truly is the limit.
What has been your most memorable performance live or otherwise?
My most memorable performance so far has to be my first city venue as a Stand-Up-Comic. I was fresh out the box as a comic and i was asked to perform at New York Comedy Club in manhattan. It was nerve wrecking waiting to go on stage and the environment was quite intimidating. When i got on stage it was all a blur. They were laughing on the edge of their seats the whole set. it was like a dream.
What was your experience filming New Stage like? Are there any cool stories from set you can share with us?
Filming “New Stage” was incredible! it was the biggest production i have ever been a part of. It was long days, sometimes 16 hours, 5 hours of sleep, eating on the run, sore throat from screaming so much (As Frank Rossi) and i loved every minute of it and would go back and do it again in a second!
one story i can tell you is, My second day filming was a long day for me. I had so many big parts that day. So Mike “The Situation” comes upstairs and into the room for his first scene ever. So they had me perform my scene one more time to introduce “Angel A” (Mike “The Situation”). Now, this is the first time that Mike was on set so you could kind of feel everyone tense up just a little bit because the big celebrity is finally here. So i go through my scene and right off the bat, instead of saying ”Whos Angel?” i said “Whos Mike?” (on accident) everyone stopped and laughed and it kind of broke the tension in the room. After that Mike shook my hand and said “Its all good bro” and everything went smooth after that.
HAHA thats awesome. You can tell everyone had so much fun on the set.
What was it like working with Mike The Situation? Did he give you any advice about the industry?
Working with Mike “The Situation” was a lot of fun. You never know who someone you see on TV really is. i didnt know if i was going to meet Mike fromJersey Shore or Mike Sorrentino. I had no idea what to expect, so theres a feeling out process. After talking with him for a while i started to realize that hes really very funny guy and a very smart business man. He was completely comfortable in front of the cameras and it showed. He never acted as if he was better than anyone or more important than anyone. He was constantly trying to help you, weather it was career advice or on set advice and he made life on the set easier and fun. Hes constantly cracking jokes and playing around.
He has surprised alot of people with this acting. Coming from reality television noone knew for sure if he was an actor but this is proving that he is a talented actor as well.
Are you anything like your character in the show?
Ive been told my hand movements in the show are nuts haha. i guess in that aspect im like my character on “New Stage”, but thats about it. Frank Rossi is a powerful man who is extremely busy but knows everything that goes on. He doesnt need to be informed of anything because he knew before you knew. Hes demanding and very successful. Dom Chizzoniti is a nice guy that loves to play around and have fun. Im a simple guy that wouldnt bark orders or yell at anyone. Im kind of a softy .
Further proof that you are an amazing actor. I would have guessed you were alot like your character because you play him so well.
Any plans for a second season?
Well you’ll have to watch and find out if theres any plans for a second season. I will say this though, hopefully the ratings for the show are amazing and the people want to see some more of us.
We would love to see a second season!!
Who or what inspires your work?
I think my everyday life and my desire for attention inspires my work haha. No, seriously i really want to change peoples life. Wether its on the big screen or up close and personal. I was very fortunate growing up. I was given so many opportunities in every aspect of my life and i would love to be able to give back to people, communities, and (God willing) Nations. Im constantly challenging myself in life, and i try to perfect everything that i do. Acting is not so easy to perfect, if possible at all. So i think this should be a fun journey.
Where is the next place we can see you perform standup?
The Next place ill be performing is at Governors comedy club in levittown long island. you can contact me for dates.
Anything else you want our readers to know about you or your work?
I would just like to say to the readers and fans, Thank you all for your continued support! Without you there would be no me. I love you all and i cant begin to tell you how much i appreciate you. Boy do we have a treat for you guys today! After many months of trying to get an interview with this busy guy we finally were able to connect with the sensational Mykell. If you dont know who this guy is then you have come to the right place to learn about him. He is not only vocally astounding but his rapid growth in popularity is phenomenal and we are HUGE FANS!!! This was so exciting to get to do. So with out further ado here is our interview with MYKELL!!!
Where do you currently live?
I recently moved from Georgia and now live in the great city of Los Angeles.
Wow! was that a difficult move to make?
I think I am still in the honeymoon phase of my move but I love being here. I love everything about this place…maybe accept the traffic. It was hard to leave everything that is comfortable and recognizable behind but I believe you have to sacrifice things to pursue something you are passionate about. So I am happy.
What was the hardest thing to leave?
definitely my family and my friends.
What is your favorite hobby?
I love to dance and have a good time with friends so my favorite pass time is hitting up clubs. I dont know if that is a hobby or not though. HA! I write alot also and I love to travel and see new places. Oh an I like food too. I like to cook food and eat food. Is that a more acceptable hobby?
HAHA food is definitely a hobby!
What is the most amazing place you have ever traveled?
Khao Yai in Thailand is absolutely amazing!!! I dont I have ever seen a place like it in my life. There is just something so awe inspiring about the mountains and the waterfalls and the animals and the air…its better than disney land.
Well you have sold us! Putting it on the bucket list. You are more than welcome to be our tour guide.
Are you single?
Yes I am currently single. Are you asking me out? on a date? To Khao Yai? If so my answer is yes!
HAHAHA! AWESOME! pick you up at 8.
Do you have a celebrity crush?
Geez doesnt everybody. Mine would have to be ummmmmm Zoe Saldana…no wait Emanuelle Chriqui…or maybe Naya Rivera! Ugh I promise I’m not girl crazy haha. Do YOU have a celebrity crush? ha gotcha pulled a switcheroo.
HAHA we here at Gennextstars share the same Celebrity crush. His name is Mykell…and Taylor Lautner.
ha awww how sweet of you to include my name when you really meant Taylor. How sweet!
No really your picture is my screen saver!
Stalker much…haha just kidding!
Your music is amazing. How would you describe your music?
Timeless…ha
But seriously it is difficult to put it into a genre because I have so many different influences vocally and I just want to bring it all together. So i guess its kind of a meld of pop, rock, soul, jazz, and r&b. Do with that what you will.
That’s interesting because we hear all of those influences when we listen to your music and I must say I am a HUGE FAN!!! like listening to your music and then doing this interview I have had several fan girl moments.
Who are your musical idols?
I have alot umm Justin Timberlake, Adam Levine, Michael Jackson, Christina Aguilera has the sexiest voice on earth, Derek Webb, surprisingly I think Nick Jonas is a genius, Sade, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Bon Jovi, and John Legend. I just love artists with clear vocal talent that cant be easily replicated.
Whose career do you most admire in the music industry?
I have alot of admiration for Justin Timberlake’s career. I grew up watching his career and seeing him go from successful boyband, to successful solo artist, to successful A list actor seamlessly and without have an epic life meltdown. Its definitely the kind of success I would like to have.
Totally agreed!
What is your most memorable performance?
Thats hard. I have 2…A concert I did in Thailand was a huge experience for me because it was on the other side of the world and incredibly surreal. I think the other would have to be a showcase I did in Atlanta. It was the first time I performed my own original music. Having my family and friends there cheering me on and sharing with the audience music that came from my heart…it was an awesome experience.
I wish we could have been at either of those performances. The lyrics to many of your songs have such passion and depth to them. What inspires your writing?
Life experiences and my relationships with other people inspire me greatly. I am somewhat of an empathic person so other people’s life experiences inspire me as well.
What was your experience working on the webseries “New Stage” like?
That was one of the most amazing things I have ever had the privilege of doing. The cast was amazingly talented. The crew was incredible. Then on top of that to have to show named after my song was so humbling. Yobi.tv , the company that produced the show, is a magnificent company. I would love to do something with them again in the future.
How was it working with Mike “The Situation” ?
He was alot of fun to work with. He actually surprised me with his acting chops. He gets a bad rep because of Jersey Shore but I think overall he is a cool guy. Mike if you read this we should hang out if you ever come to LA!
Thats really cool. We are huge Jersey Shore fans so if you should help us get an interview with him too! But where can our readers check out the series “New Stage”?
episode air every Tuesday night at 10pm est. Check us out and show some love.
You have a new album out now titled “Sound Therapy” so what was the process of getting that album together like for you?
That was seriously hard work and a year long process. Writing and recording and writing and recording and rerecording and then once I had like 25 songs I had to pick which ones I wanted on the album. I had to take alot of breaks because I found myself picking at old wounds just to get inspiration for songs. But ultimately this project was very therapeutic for me. To be able to write about old heartbreaks and recollecting dark times in my life was necessary for me to move forward. That is why I titled the album “Sound Therapy.” Hopefully some song will resonate with someone and be therapeutic for them as well.
YOU ARE SUCH A POWERFUL GUY!! In that one answer you have made us into even bigger fans (if thats even possible)
What is your favorite track on the album?
My favorites are Like Me and Hope is You. Two totally different songs and written from different areas of my heart but I think they capture who I am better than any of the other songs on the album.
Hope is You is so beautiful and the lyrics are so haunting and Like Me makes me think dirty thoughts…I love it! However, Woozy stays on repeat around here. LOVE IT!!
What producers or artists do you hope to work with in the future?
Obviously Justin Timberlake is on the list but I would love to work with the producer Red One and Timbaland. I would love to collab with Jordin Sparks and Rihanna. Eminem, Nicki Minaj, Christina Aguilera, and Bruno Mars are also on my list of people i PLAN to work with.
A duet with you and Jordin, Rihanna, or Christina would be simply earth shaking! IT HAS TO HAPPEN!!
Do you have any projects in the works?
I have some things in the works. Some things I cant quite talk about right now. but I am shopping my album around right now so hopefully I will get some big bites from major labels. I’m excited to be performing at the Avalon Hollywood in January in support of an awesome organization called Team True Beauty. Check them out and buy a ticket for the show. I’m excited for 2 reasons…I really believe in what the organization represents and also because The Avalon is the first place The Beatles ever performed at in the US. Thats pretty huge to me. I am also working on a modeling career since I just got signed to a modeling agency out here.
You are one busy guy! Where can our readers go to stay up to date with your career?
These are the places you can get the most up to date information about what I’m doing. So check me out and join in on the fun.
What would you say to someone who wants to pursue their dreams?
I say go for it! Be sure that it is something you are seriously passionate about and then don’t ever give up. If its your passion then that means you are willing to go to any lengths to reach it. So run hard after it no matter what others say. Expect it to be difficult and just go for it!
Thank you so much for doing this interview with us! You are an amazing person and artist and you no doubt will have MAJOR success in your career. We are honored to have been able to do this interview with you before you become a huge celebrity!
To our readers, GO CHECK out MYKELL!! HE is amazing and his music is absolutely incredible. And stay tuned for more awesome interviews coming your way!
Our filmmaker friend, Justin Patten, updated us on his going ons. He is currently working on a production of a new webseries titled “New Stage” and if that wasnt already cool, this series stars the infamous Mike “The Situation” from MTV’s Jersey Shore. While Justin couldn’t give us much information about the show’s premise, did give us a a link to production blog with behind the scenes clips and photos. Congrats on landing this gig Justin. We are certain this is only the beginning of many great experiences for you.
From what we can tell, this show might actually be a very entertaining show to watch. The costars are all artists who won their roles from an online contest called YOBI.TV. For all our readers who are looking for ways to break into the industry this website is a goldmine. All you have to do is load a video of you acting or singing or a short film you created (like Justin) and get people to vote for your video to win. While we do not know many of the cast, one we are familiar with is Mykell. Hopefully we will get an inside scoop of the show in our interview with Mykell, coming soon. In the meantime, check out the production blog for this new series “New Stage” and sign up for a Yobi.Tv contest while you are at it. Who knows it could be your next big break
This time around we got the awesome opportunity to get an interview with the lovely Jackie Pajo. With a powerful and soulful voice well beyond her years, She is definitely someone you want to keep your eyes on. We totally believe big things are in store for this amazing talent. Get to know her here…
Where do you currently reside?
Holbæk, Denmark

I enjoy cooking with friends, swimming, dancing, surfing the internet, and visiting with fans via
Facebook.
It is awesome that you communicate with your fans on facebook. Very admirable.
What artists is most played on your ipod or stereo?
Jessie J, Mariah Carey, Adele, and Duffy.
Jessie J and Adele are such a breath of fresh air in the industry. LOVE THEM!!!
How would you describe your music?
I would have to say that my music is soulful. I love expressing a deep emotional style when I sing a
song. If I really love a song, I can pour all of my feelings into it. Generally speaking, soulful music
can be catchy and many people do find that they connect with a song that can be linked to a personal
place in time.
You are definitely soulful. It is like you channel many different soulful singers from past generations. True talent!
What is your most memorable performance? why?
I have many memories of shows and my supporters, but one memory in particular took place in 2009,
at the Amari, a five star hotel in Thailand. The memory pertains to what took place after my
performance in front of fifty or sixty VIPs. I recall being greeted after the show and congratulated.
These folks showed an authentic admiration for the music, my talent, and the show in general. For me,
I was overwhelmed and hugely appreciative.
Do you write your own music? if so who or what inspires your lyrics?
Yes, I do write music. The life experience inspires me to write. An example is when I wrote the song,
Springtime. To me, the title is very clear. Spring represents a new birth, something new, something
living, something growing. I was very happy in that moment of my life. Happy to be alive. Happy
that someone loved me and I was returning that love. So, yes, life’s experiences can be very
inspirational and the results can be that of a song.
You have such depth in your words. Very passionate and moving!
Are you signed to a label?
No. I am Independent.
That should change soon!!
Whose career do you most admire in the music industry?
I would have to say that I admire the career of Beyonce. Firstly, I would have to say that she is an
phenomenal song writer. Secondly, she is a spectacular talent, vocally. Finally, her music studio is
quite extraordinary. The kind of place that leaves an artist like me in awe. A studio like that would be
a dream come true.
BEYONCE IS SPECTACULAR!!
Of your personal music, what is the one you are most proud of? Why?
“Springtime” because I believe the song was meant to materialize into existence. I think that I have
done well with the song because it has a solid melody. I created the melody with one stroke of my
guitar and like magic, the song was created and I captured it, initially on my iphone. But all in all, the
song was born from my life’s experience in that moment.
Absolutely Beautiful.
What are your future goals and ambitions as it pertains to music?
My ambition is to have a hit song, perhaps a handful, sequentially. To have a sprinkling of hit songs
throughout the course of my music career is certainly an aspiration. I would be happy to have these
hits songs fall somewhere within the top 20 hits on music charts in at least Denmark, the United States,
and of course, the Philippines. This ambition is one driven by my love for music and having a strong
desire to contribute to life’s experience in a meaningful and lasting way.
You are an amazing person and your heart and ambition are clearly seen in your music and in this interview!
Any music projects in the works currently?
Upcoming concert in October 2011 (Copenhagen, Denmark)
What artist or producer would you most like to work with?
I would certainly love to work with Christina Aguilera. I would also enjoy working with
Kat Deluna and Duffy. Someday, I would love to work with Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and
Mariah Carey.
Well we are certainly glad we got the opportunity to interview you before you explode with success in the music industry. We got an awesome opportunity to ask a few questions to the most adorable singer. Her name is Kaitlyn Knippers and she is definitely someone to look out for. Where do you currently reside?
I am living in Cypress, Texas.

I just turned 15 on July 21st.
Happy BIRTHDAY!!!
What sort of things do you do for fun?
I love surfing, skiing ,tubing, wake boarding, camping, i love the outdoors and water.
It seems you love to have fun and do exciting stuff! That is cool!
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
I would probably live in Hawaii because its so beautiful and they absolutely have a respect for all music, and because the weather, the ocean, and the people are amazing.
I would totally live in Hawaii too!!
What artists is most played on your ipod or stereo?
I listen to so many different artists and genres and I always have my ipod with me. But, i mostly Listen to Brad Paisley, Queen, Skrillex, Jake Owen, ACDC, and thats just a few.
Such a diverse taste in music. Thats cool. It is important for artists to like many types of music so they can create something new in their music. And I LOVE Skrillex!!!!
How would you describe your music?
I would describe it as a rock/ pop feel. But, it also has a lot of different influences mixed into it as well.
Your music is so fun and easy to get into! It just makes people feel happy!
What is your most memorable performance? why?
When I sang Broken Wing at the Sam Houston race track and it was a country competition and i remember singing my little heart out was 11 year old i think and i remember finishing the song and everybody screaming and yelling and mom telling me how proud she was it was a great feeling.
Do you write your own music? if so who or what inspires your lyrics?
Yes I wrote almost all my songs on my new Just me album and most of the time boys are the inspiration and also my little girl cousins about staying strong.
Are you signed to a label?
Nope, but hopefully in future.
You will be in no time! you are very talented.
Whose career do you most admire in the music industry?
Kelly Clarkson, because she quit her label to persue the career in music she wanted.
Definitely in this industry you have to be sure of who you are and what you want musically and Kelly Clarkson is someone who sticks to her guns!
Of your personal music, what is the one you are most proud of? Why?The song Clueless, because its hard to admit your wrong or confused about something even though everybody messes up. It just really came from my heart.
You can hear you sing with your heart in the recording too! I love that song.
What are your future goals and ambitions as it pertains to music?
Well hopefully to get signed, a mall tour, produce more music, and get a scholarship for music to a university.
Any music projects in the works currently?
I’ve been working on some new lyrics, and practicing more on the guitar and piano for upcoming shows. My new single ‘Scissors in My Heart’ will hit the airways soon…so I am hoping it will take off
We look forward to hearing “Scissors in My Heart” really soon on the airways!
What artist or producer would you most like to work with?
I’d love to work with Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Brad Paisley they all have amazing talent. As for producer David Guetta or Dr Luke they worked with Kesha and Britany Spears
OMG! a duet with you and Bieber would be heavenly especially if it was produced by David Guetta. He is a genius!
Ok everyone go buy Kaitlyn Knippers music on itunes right now! She is spectacular and you dont want to miss out on this amazing girl’s rise to fame. She is going far and we here at GENNEXTSTARS absolutely love her. Check this video of her out. We love you Kaitlyn!
We had the awesome opportunity to get an interview with “Courgar’s Inc” director Asher Levin. To say this is an honor would be an understatement. If you dont know who Asher Levin is, you soon will. With his quick witted writing and amazing skills as a director, he is taking the film industry by storm! Get to know Asher Levin…
Where are you from and where do you currently reside?
I’m actually born and raised in Los Angeles. Well, technically born in La Jolla, CA (that’s near San Diego) and then my parents moved back to Los Angeles. They’re from here. Or, dad’s from here… and by here I mean L.A. And mom’s from NYC. Oh, wait, I think there was a second part to the question… Yes, I currently reside in Los Angeles as well. But I lived in New York for a while and I visit there a lot. But not enough to say bi-coastal. But one can dream.
What is your favorite place in the world to visit? Why?
I haven’t visited a ton of places out of the great USofA. In the U.S. I toured with my old band a bunch so I’ve seen some pretty great towns. New Orleans, Austin, Allentown (Allentown was a joke… The night we played there, they literally had a riot about five blocks away for no apparent reason.) But in the world, of the places I’ve been, Amalfi in Italy is awesome. And I’m actually pretty partial to California’s wine country. My bucket list consists of Chile, Argentina, South of France, Japan, Morocco… I kinda base all my favorite places on food and drink. And I may catch some hell if I don’t say Israel, so I’ll just put that down in case my grandmother ends up seeing this.
How long have you been filmmaking?
I started making movies when I was a little kid. I wasn’t a very hands-on filmmaker back then. I actually made my parents be my crew and I’d do these strange sort of late night talk show things, where I was the host and I interviewed various stuffed animals and action figurines. Then I graduated to surf videos for my friends. Then I did some directing of theater. Then Tisch and then I dropped out of Tisch to shoot my first movie at 19. After that I joined this rock band for a while and got back into it in my mid twenties. What was the question?
What is your personal favorite film?
Goodfellas. ’Nuff said.
What kind of stuff do you do for fun?
I like playing basketball, which I’m pretty horrible at. I sorta play like Ron Artest… if Ron Artest was a five foot nine Jew with absolutely no shot. I also like sex. There’s other stuff too. I just can’t place them at the moment. Oh yeah, seeing my niece and my the rest of the fam, going out with friends, eating… Jeeze this is such a loaded question. I feel like I need to say everything, just in case I miss something and someone says, “don’t you still love to sing?” or “isn’t your job what you do for fun?” Any which way you come out sounding like an asshole. Thanks for the question.
We absolutely love your answers! you are hilarious. Hopefully when we graduate to video interviews we can do another one face to face with you. That would be so fun!
Do you have a favorite filmmaker or director?
I have a top five. They sort of always alternate number one. I’m also a little confused about the difference between a filmmaker and a director… But I’m just gonna go with it. Um… Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Cameron Crowe, John Hughes, and Mike Nichols. I’d also like to nominate Chris Nolan, David Fincher, and Tarantino to my bench.
We are a little confused about the difference between a filmaker and a director as well. I always figured the two were interchangeable.
How did you know you wanted to be a filmmaker?
I still don’t really know if I want to be a filmmaker. I love to tell stories. That’s my thing. So sometimes I tell them in a feature, sometimes I tell them in a music video. Sometimes it’s a TV show. Sometimes it’s viral. Sometimes I use the camera to do it and sometimes it’s just the pen or computer. Hopefully one day I’ll find enough patience to write a couple books. And if none of that works, than I’ll just be crazy uncle asher telling tall tales to whoever cares to listen.
What is your most enjoyable part of filmmaking?
I honestly love all aspects of filmmaking. Its kind of like having a kid (or at least that’s what it sorta seems like from those who I’ve seen have them). You create this thing and you love it so much and so you prepare for this baby you’ve created to be amazing. Then when your baby gets a little more mature, you let the kid interact with others. You’re still around but you kind of take a back seat and only intervene when you need to teach the kid something new. After a ton of education and homework and growing pains you finally look at the child you’ve created and realize the time has come. Finally when you can’t teach your kid anymore, you let your baby leave home.
So, I don’t really know what the most enjoyable part is, but I do know the worst part is the end. Saying goodbye is tough.
Perfectly put!
Who do you most admire in the filmmaking industry?
I admire people who take the craft seriously but don’t take themselves seriously. I’m a huge fan of J.J. Abrams. What I love most about the guy is that he has a genuine love and respect for what he’s doing but he’s not afraid to act like a goofball on late night tv and stuff. I also love and admire the dedication it takes to get a film actually made. People who work tireless to get passion projects up and running, that’s amazing. That’s why I love producers. People like to talk a lot of shit about movie producers. But they have the most thankless job and I’d like to publicly thank my producing partners, most specifically my partner on a lot of film projects, Graham Larson. Great guy. It’s a crazy, horrible job that only exists in Hollywood, but is actually a great example of why this business is so unique. Filmmakers are in the business of creating stories and producers make those fantasies reality. So, hat’s off. Everything else about the film industry is fucked.
In all honesty I have never quite understood the role of producers in films and television but you have taught me something today! haha
We love Cougars Inc. such a funny movie. What was the most memorable part of filming “Cougars INC?”
First off, thank you so much. I’ve found the flick to be a sort of challenging movie for people to get their heads around so I’m always happy to hear that somebody actually liked it. The most memorable part of making the movie was working with all the amazing actors. I’m a natural born hustler and I begged, borrowed, and stole to assemble the cast we got. The shit I pulled to just get these amazing talents to sign up is an article in itself. But if I had to narrow all the experiences down to one part of filming I’d have to say it was when we shot my favorite scene in the movie with Kyle (Gallner) and Kathryn (Morris) at the Hotel Angelino bar. We had the bar from 1am until 4am. Kathryn had just done 14 hours on Cold Case and then drove right over. Kyle had been shooting with us for nine hours. And I had this crazy idea that we should schedule one of the most important scenes in the entire film when both actors were emotionally and physically drained from working on other stuff all day. I had heard this story of how Sidney Lumet got Pacino to deliver that performance in “Dog Day…” when he’s on the phone with Chris Surrandon by making him do the scene fifty times before he even started shooting and I figured to get a scene where you forgot about ages and just watched people being, they actually needed to be there. Just Kathryn and Kyle. No acting. Two people tired and drained. Voices scratchy. Brains a little loopy. And I didn’t give them any real direction. Because I wanted the two to be so vulnerable that the only thing they could grab onto for safety was each other. We shot the scene in less than an hour, in five static two shots and broke up the scene with non-linear beats of the two in the elevator and the hallway. I wouldn’t change a thing.
INCREDIBLE! Masterful work! Id love to get a follow up on how you assembled the cast at some point in the future! haha…but seriously. The cast was simply amazing. I just thought the movie was hilarious and I havent really seen a premise like it before which I enjoyed…I love originality!
Of your personal work, what is the one you are most proud of? Why?
I’m satisfied with certain things I’ve done, but I don’t know if I’m exactly proud of anything yet. I’m only 31, so I got time. Don’t get me wrong I’m proud of “Cougars…” and getting the movie distributed and stuff, but there are things I could have done differently. I’m very proud of all the wonderful performances in the film, but I was just lucky to capture those. So I can’t take credit there. There have been a couple TV projects I loved that didn’t go past development. And some of the recent short form stuff I’ve shot looks great. But I’m still waiting for something that I can say is one hundred percent perfect. And that’s probably never gonna happen. So, I guess I’m most proud of doing what I love as a job. That’s not a specific personal work, but everything I do is personal, so that kind of answers the question.
Who or what inspires your work?
I get inspired by tons of shit, but mostly music and photography. That’s my thing. When I write it’s a lot about songs I’m listening to and getting that rhythm. So maybe it’s The Stones or Kanye one week, and The White Stripes and Lil Wayne the next. When it comes to directing I create extensive look books. I was with a jewelry designer for a long time and she made these huge inspiration boards. This was right about the time I started getting serious about directing. And I thought, God damn that’s a great way to create the canvas for a scene. I hate storyboarding and referencing other films is a double edged sword, so I started pulling from fashion magazines and photography books and now it’s great because I can go online daily to photo blogs and grab shots from Ryan McGinley or something in next months VMagazine or Purple Magazine and then sort of stockpile them in folders on my computer. When a song for a music video comes to me, or I have to put together a director’s proposal for a project, I just got to my million jpegs and see what inspires me and then I’ll literally put them into a sort of presentation with whatever my treatment is. So, yeah, music and photography. And both are usually provocative material. Stuff that feels dangerous and voyeristic and has a lot of swagger.
Has anyone ever called you a certified creative genius…because we here think that might be the case.
What are your future goals and ambitions as it pertains to filmmaking?
I just wanna keep working. That’s my goal. In terms of genre, it all depends on the story, but I’d love to get into action and thriller stuff. That’s what I’m into right now.
Any projects in the works currently that you can share with us?
I got a bunch of stuff in the works, but it’s all sort of early and I have partners with each property and until we properly set each thing up it wouldn’t be fair to them to share. But I will say that I’m developing in viral, TV, and film right now. So hopefully you’ll be seeing a ton of content very very soon.
Where can the readers connect with you or find your work online?
I started a tumblr thing, but it’s sort of just sitting there. The best way to see what I’m up to is following me on twitter @asherlevin I’m on there all the time. And if I have a new project I promote the shit out of it through twitter.
What actor/actress would you most like to work with?
Hmmm… Robert Downey Jr., Justin Timberlake, Jon Hamm, Philip Seymore Hoffman, and Owen Wilson are sorta wish list stuff. I’ve been wanting to find something great for Topher Grace forever. I’ve loved Charlie Day since the first year of “Sunny…” so he’s up there. And Tom Cruise, because he’s Tom Cruise. I also kinda love Terrance Howard. Oh and Diddy. I gotta work with Diddy. Other than that, actresses are divided into girls I’d like to direct because they’re amazing and girls I’d like to direct because they’re amazing and I’d also like to wife them up. You can figure out who’s who…. Catherine Keener, Kate Winslet, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Chloe Sevigny, Olivia Wilde, Halle Berry, Kate Bosworth (I loved her “Wonderland”), Aurbey Plaza, Rachel McAdams, Cat Dennings, Elizabeth Moss, Emmanuelle Chrique (she’s a friend and I think it would be fun to figure out something for us to collab on), that goes for Amy Smart, Jason Ritter (a man, but sexy to boot) and Kate Hudson as well. So, a ton of actors. That didn’t narrow anything down at all.
HAHA we would love to see what you could do with EVERY SINGLE actor/actress you named. Love them all! Adore Emmanuelle in “Entourage” and I think you and Topher Grace could work some serious magic together.
What is the best advice you can give someone who is just starting out in the pursuit of filmmaking?
Do it because you have to, not because you want to. I wish I could have wanted to be a lawyer or a doctor as well as a filmmaker, because then I could have actually had a true profession that made money that I was also passionate about. But other than singing in a rock n roll band, this is the only other thing I’ve ever thought about doing and I’m lucky that my family indulged my dreams and now I’m stuck being a filmmaker. That’s how I like to put it “stuck.” So if you find yourself enjoying the process and loving movies, but you still could see yourself doing something different, do it. Having said that, being a filmmaker is just about the greatest thing you can do in the world other than cure cancer. You get to create memories and feelings and have those memories and feelings forever solidified in a work of popular art. And if any of you reading this feel the same way and you’d trade money and family and pretty much everything to share your vision with others, strap in it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
You sir, are a modern day philosopher! your answers are so insightful.
Have you ever felt like quitting when it looked impossible? How do you overcome those times?

What an honor and privilege it is to have an interview with the beautiful and talented Alexie Agdeppa!! A seasoned dancer/choreographer who has performed all over the world, Alexie is seen on “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 7 top 11 finalists. We just absolutely adore her energy and spunk…which totally pours into her dancing. So without further ado get to know Alexie Agdeppa…
Where were you born?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles.
and Where do you currently reside?
I currently reside in Los Angeles.
So what exactly is your ethnicity?
I am full Filipina.
And what a beautiful Filipina you are!
How would your friends describe you?
My friends would describe me as optimistic, spunky, always in for a good laugh and adventure.
We can totally see that spunkiness in your dancing!
What kind of things do you do for fun?
I love spending time with my family, my boyfriend, my friends and my dogs, trying out new restaurants, going to museums and art exhibits, I’ve dabbled in photography and painting and would like to get into that more. I’m addicted to traveling.
You are definitely an adventurous person! We looove traveling as well.
So how long have you been dancing?
I have been dancing for 23 years!
Oh WOW!! That is incredible…your commitment is amazing.
Besides dancing, what other things are you involved in within the entertainment industry?
Besides dancing, I choreograph, teach, and adjudicate. I’ve always had a foot in acting – presently I’m taking the whole plunge.
We cant wait to see you on the big screen! We know it is coming!
When did you realize you wanted a career in dance?
Dance has always been a part of my life. I competed when I was younger, started dancing in the entertainment industry at the age of 7. I graduated from UCLA with a degree in World Arts and Cultures with an emphasis in Dance and Choreography. I’d still audition, teach, and perform here and there, but I didn’t really realize this is what I wanted to do for a living until after college when I worked at a desk job for a year and a half. I come from a Filipino household where my parents are firm believers that dance is not a “real job”. They moved to the US from the Philippines where they practically didn’t have anything growing up, and they wanted to make sure their children were financially stable in their careers. After the desk job I really realized, dance is what I love, life is too short to not be doing what I love. In the end I know as long as I’m happy (and I can pay my bills) my parents would be happy for me as well.
What a testament to how our callings and dreams CAN and DO come true! And I am sure your parents are extremely supportive now and see dancing as a “real job.”
How would you define or describe the art of dance?
Kind of corny but honestly the Art of Dance, to me, is gratitude to the gift of life.
That is absolutely beautiful! So poetic and original!
What is your favorite style of dance? Why?
I think I have two; to do and to choreograph, I love contemporary/lyrical. To watch and to “try” to do (haha! wish I could do it better), Hip-hop. I love Hip-hop music and culture. They are both emotionally liberating, and yet they keep me grounded at the same time. Through both styles I feel as though I’m able to live and be my full creative self.
As a dancer and choreographer who or what inspires your work?
Life. I draw inspiration from the smallest things like getting out of bed in the morning, hearing a song I’d like to dance/choreograph to while on my drive to the grocery store, to talking to friends about love.
What would you say has been the biggest moment of your career so far?
I would have to say getting to be in the Top 11 for SYTYCD Season 7 has been the biggest moment of my career so far. I’d been blessed with many opportunities in my dance career but I worked really hard to get on the show and persevered when people told me I couldn’t, I shouldn’t, and I wouldn’t. It kind of felt good to prove them wrong.
You were amazing on SYTYCD! It is its own reward to triumph when people say you can’t or won’t.
Tell us some of the artists and other industry professionals you have danced for?
I’ve danced on commercials and industrials for Cannon, Disney, Payless, SABAN, JC Penny, Nissan, Nordstroms, and Reebok; music videos for artists such as Prince, Nelly Furtado, Charice Pempengco, Macy Gray, and the Pussycat Dolls. On film and television, the 64th Academy Awards choreographed by Debbie Allen, the Emmy Award-nominated 82nd Academy Awards choreographed and produced by Adam Shankman, and “America’s Got Talent” with creative director Brian Friedman. Guest appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Call with Carson Daly,” and “Entourage” when I represented the LA Lakers as a LA Laker Girl during 2003-2005 seasons. And as a young performer I had featured roles in the video series “Guidepost Junction” and “Kid’s Songs.” As Grace, a series regular, on a television series called “The Huggabug Club” which starred the Landers sisters.
You are an incredibly accomplished woman. We can only anticipate with excitement how bright your career will be.
While on “So You Think You can Dance” what was your favorite dance performance?
While on the show my favorite dance performance was when we did the introduction of the Top 11 opening number with the All-Stars to David Bowie’s “Fame” choreographed by Wade Robson. Not only do I think Wade is brilliant but the energy between all of us was unlike anything I could describe or anything that could ever be duplicated. It was like everything had come out of this dream-like state and we had come into the present. I remember thinking “This is really happening! Aaaahhh!”.
That is so amazing! Wade Robson is so talented and it must have been so mind-blowing to work with him! Definitely a gift to the entertainment world.
What has been the most memorable experience in your professional career?
I’ve been lucky enough to have many memorable experiences, but one that stands out the most is when I got to perform in the 82nd Academy Awards for the opening number. I didn’t dance much but I got to sit in a prop seat right next to Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, some of my favorite performers of all time! I got to meet and talk to them doing what I love, performing and dancing.
Thats crazy awesome!!
With you being such an accomplished performer we have to ask, what are your future goals and aspirations in your career as a dancer and choreographer?
Some of my future goals in my dance career include dancing on film. Honestly, I just hope to be doing exactly what I have been doing, continuously working. I’m excited for all the wonderful opportunities that may come up. As a choreographer an ideal goal would be to be a choreographer/artistic director for an artist or a show. I would also love to own my dance studio(s), competitions, conventions, and maybe start a foundation offering dance classes to kids whose parents can’t afford to pay for classes.
Maybe you can connect with some of the burgeoning artists we feature and become their choreographer. That would be awesome. We are confident that you can and will achieve everything you set your mind to.
When do you think you can say “I have made it, I have arrived.” in terms of success?
I know I can always say, “I am happy, I’m content, with where I am right now” but I don’t think I could ever say, “I am satisfied”. There’s always going to be something new I want to accomplish.
Absolutely true!
Any performances currently in the works that you can share with us?
Right now, I’m concentrating on choreographing, teaching, and acting class.
Where can our readers go online to stay up to date with your career?
Just launched my new websitewww.alexieagdeppa.com! Check out my latest updates, follow me on twitter and facebook, or read my blog.
What words of advice to do you have for people dreaming of becoming a dancer or choreographer like yourself?
Continue training, continue learning, as an artist, in any art form, there are no limits, you can always get better, there’s always something to learn, you are always growing and evolving. I’ve always loved the quote if you do what you love, you will never have to work a day in your life. Always remember, there’s a reason you have dreams – to make them true.
You have such a beautiful heart with amazing talent. We are so grateful for the opportunity to have done this interview with you. We look forward to seeing more of your performances in the world of entertainment. Get to know him in our first ever interview with Justin Patten…
Favorite food?
Pad Kra Pow. It’s a spicy Thai dish with rice, chicken, and some kind of amazing plant. It’s sooooo good!
That sounds so delicious!!!
Where are you from and where do you currently reside?
I grew up in the small town of Cordele, Georgia. Some of my friends are actually making a zombie movie there right now. I went to college in Valdosta, Georgia at Valdosta State University, and I still live here. I’m working at a fast food restaurant and trying to save up some money so I can make one more move out to Los Angeles this summer. I’m really excited about that.
Wow that is a huge step! You must be very serious about your craft. That is extremely admirable. That kind of risk taking is sure to get you far in your career
What is your personal favorite film?
Jurassic Park is definitely my favorite film. When I was young I loved dinosaurs, more than any other kid. They were my life! Then Jurassic Park comes along and I get to see a living, breathing dinosaur for the very first time. My life was complete (for then, haha). It is still my favorite movie because it still entrances me with that same magic, and keeps me on the edge of my seat with the intensity and thrill of watching everything go wrong. It was so well directed, and the cinematography was on point. And on top of it all, they never once portrayed the dinosaurs as anything more than animals. I hate when movies try to make animals into movie villains.
Do you have a favorite filmmaker?
One of my current filmmakers is Jon M Chu, director of Step Up 3 and Never Say Never. I like him because he believes in good storytelling, and makes sure that it is a heavy focus in his films. He also gets some really great shots, especially seen in the Step Upmovies. And from what I know about him personally he seems really cool. Very positive, someone who wants to help others become greater as he goes about his own journey.
He did so amazing with Never Say Never! We love his creativity as well.
How did you know you wanted to be a filmmaker?
Since I was in high school I’ve had an inkling that I wanted to do this. My friends and I would make silly skits and film them to show around, and I loved it. Then I went off for college and I wasn’t making any films or writing so I got away from it for awhile. One day I was watching the show Entourage and a director on the show was explaining his vision for a scene in the movie he was making, and it hit me. Something inside of me rose up and as I listened to him speak I thought “Yes, I want to do that too!” So I started writing, my parents helped me get a camera, and here I am! Every time I film something it reaffirms to me that I need to do this. Anything else would make my life seem wasted.
You have such a way with words…even how you described that was so creative and entertaining. YOU ARE A FILMMAKER!
What film genre do you most want to work in?
I want to try some of everything, but there are two genres I am really looking foward to doing: comedy and action. I want to do comedies because I think it would be so much fun working with some of the big time comedians like Will Ferrel or Paul Rudd. And action just seems like an awesome, fun genre to film. Who doesn’t love blowing things up?
That would be so amazing. We could totally see you making an awesome action movie with incredible story! And you would make magic with Will Ferrel. He’s a genius.
What is your most enjoyable part of filmmaking?
Oh man. I love it all, from creating the idea to working with the actors to editing. I’m learning the most as I work with actors. I’m very inexperienced in directing and storyboarding and all of these small projects are helping me identify weak spots so that I can work on them. But if I had to pick an absolute favorite part I would say releasing it. I’ve taken this project from just a thought to something tangible, and now I get to see what people think about it! It’s a vulnerable place, but an exciting one.
Have you ever considered being a writer seriously. your emotions are so connected to what you write and it is sure to show up in your films as well.
What do you most admire in the filmmaking industry?
I admire the amount of influence it brings. Our culture is largely shaped by movies and celebrities. If people would harness that and start influencing people for good instead of selfish motives we could do a lot of incredible things in this world. That’s why I want to make it, so that just maybe I could influence someone to do something great with their life and be a force for good instead of selfishness.
Beautifully worded!
You are clearly an inspired young man. Who or what inspires your work?
It will sound cheesy, but life inspires me. I draw from interactions with my friends and strangers, experiences I’ve had, and bits and pieces of stories I’ve picked up over the years. Whenever I experience something new I store it away until I find the right time to put it in a film.
Of your personal work, what is the one you are most proud of? Why?
There are two that I’m proud of. The first is the video for Mykell’s cover of Nick Jonas’ “I Want Someone To Love Me.” I love this one because it looks so good and it’s for a great cause. We made it in support of an organization of a friend, Team True Beauty, to support healthy self image. My other favorite is the recent ad I made for the online game Guild Wars 2. I love this one because it’s got my personal brand of humor all through it and it was made using a lot of the techniques I learned as I reflected on past proects. It embodies my dream of always doing something better!
Both of those were so well done! It shows your diversity. you already have more diverse creativity than most mainstream filmmakers. You will only get better!
what do you think your strengths are as a filmmaker?
I think I have a really good eye for getting the good shots; I come from a line of photographers. And I’m really good at writing, the other side of my family are writers. It all comes together though when I use it with my own personal tastes; they differ from the average persons, it seems. I expect greatness from myself and from my projects, and I believe that will help in setting me apart from the large group of men and women who seek the same spot I do.
Absolutely! So What are your future goals and ambitions as it pertains to filmmaking?
I want to make a feature film in the next two years. I would love to get to the Oscars in about the same time. I mean, I would love to win one, but just to be invited would be incredible. I’m still debating on when or if I should go back to school for more training, that all depends on what happens once I get out to Los Angeles. I want to get around other directors and filmmakers so that I can absorb everything they have to teach me.
Film School could be good. Lots of aspiring filmmakers to be around. It would take your natural talent to the next level but you may be someone who learns by doing.
Any projects in the works currently?
Nothing ready to film yet, but I’m slowly working on some stories that could become feature length films someday. I’m not ready to reveal anything yet, just know that there are always things bubbling around in my head!
So looking forward to what you come up with! It is sure to be incredible.
I would love to work with Jeremy Piven. I love his work in Entourage, Smokin’ Aces, and The Goods. He seems like a great guy and a professional at what he does, so getting a chance to work with him would be divine. Of course it’s a tie between him and Zoe Saldana. I just love her!
AMAZING ACTOR!! Love Ari Gold! Maybe he will get a look at your interview and want to work with you in the future too!! And Zoe is as talented as she is beautiful.
Anything else you want our readers to know about you or your work?
It’s in it’s fledgling stage now. What you see is the work of someone who is just getting started, so if you like it then be ready to watch it get better and better! And if you hate it, stick around and watch me progress. It’s going to be a fun ride, and I’m all for having people come with me.
We are positive everything you do is going to be AMAzing!! We really look forward to everything that you will deliver to us your fans. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview. Your words are truly inspiring. Great things are definitely in store for you.
